Brickfield Grind Out Win At Lex

Brickfield grinded out a 2-1 win a Lex Glyndwr on the season opener.

The home side started the game really brightly, as expected for a team high in confidence after last season, and almost took the lead on 15 minutes when confusion at the back let former Brickfield player Liam Sklenar almost through on goal. Lex enjoyed most of the possession for the first 30 minutes but rarely created a clear cut opening and it was Brickfield who almost scored on the half hour mark when man of the match Dale Davies was denied by an excellent save from Tom Belton in the Lex nets.

The game opened up in the second half as the hosts tired and it was Davies who pounced on a parried save to fire Rangers ahead on 57 minutes.
But, the lead was short lived when a defensive error allowed Sklenar to equalise against his former club just two minutes later.

As the game wore on Brickfield began to control the possession and a wonderful cross by Danny Barlow was met by an equally wonderful bullet header by Davies to give Brickfield the lead once again.

Lex pushed as the game wore on with Steve Evans coming close with a far post header. At the other end substitute Scott Swords nearly put the game to bed, but was again denied by the Lex keeper.

After the game the gaffer was relieved "Sometimes you have to grind out a result and today thats what we did. Lex started really brightly as we had expected but we just had to remain patient and wait for the game to open up. Its a tough place to come to and Lex will be difficult to beat here, so these 3 points will be vital for our campaign. Theres still alot to work on but I'm happy and relieved that weve come away here with the points in the bag".
