Brickfield Rangers welcomed Llay Welfare to Clywedog Park for game two of the WNL Premier League, and it turned out to be an entertaining fixture.
Rangers welcomed back Andy Pasco into the starting XI after a short spell on the sidelines replacing the injured Sam Molyneux.
The home side started brightly with some good possession and almost went ahead on 5 minutes when Danny Barlow cut inside only to see his effort come back off the woodwork. But it was the vistors who struck first blood. An excellent individual effort on 10 minutes giving Llay the early advantage.
However their lead was shortlived and just four minutes later Dale Davies expertly steered home a header from a excellent cross from man of the match Ross Ankers .
Brickfield then should've taken the lead just a minute later when Danny Barlow was brought down inside the penalty area. However, Dale Davies ' resultant spot kick was saved by the Llay keeper.
Brickfield pressed for the remainder of the half and created a number of chances, but the Llay back line stood strong and denied the home side from extending their lead.
In the second half, Llay pressed the game well and the front three for the visitors became a constant threat throughout the second half. Brickfield dominated the possesion but without any end product, and Llay's pressure was rewarded on 66 minutes when confusion at the back was punished as Brickfield failed to clear the danger.
Dave Norman made changes introducing new signing Nathan Davies into the game and he had an instant impact with two defense splitting passes but once again the rub of the green for the home side wained in the final third. Then on 72 minutes a long range shot from Ankers took a slight deflection which eluded the Llay goalkeeper and Brickfield where once again level.
As the home side pressed for a winner Norman introduce Matt Wareham a product from the youth programme into the game for Danny Barlow , but Brickfield just couldn't find the fortune needed in the final third against a resilient Llay side.
Final Score Brickfield Rangers 2 - 2 Llay Welfare
Man of the Match - Ross Ankers
Dave Norman had this to say after the game "Disappointing to drop 2 points at home, but Llay where resilient throughout and we found it difficult to break them down."
Norman though was pleased with certain aspects of the game "We created a good amount of chances tonight, and our possession was very good, we just lacked that killer instinct in the final third. We found ourselves coming from behind on two occasions when we seemed to be in control of the game and this happens in football. We need to work on a number of things and be more patient in the final third".
